Medusa

68 x 45 x 7 cm, 14.5 x 8 x 6 cm/box x3

Aluminium Foil, Old Cables, Magnets, iPhone Screens, Gel Pen

Drawing from children’s overconsumption of technology, the work comments on the evolution of the culture of play, where ‘play’ today is through a screen rather than outside. By repurposing cables and phone screens to form the mythological figure, Medusa, screen time is likened to gazing into her eyes: paralysing individuals. The use of disposable materials like aluminium foil highlights the superficiality of technology-infused childhoods, and the idea of recycling. Hence, the work encourages the audience to consider the impact of technological development on one’s upbringing.
